Meet the Team in Stafford

Jan Goodwin, Optometrist

Jan qualified as an optometrist, the modern term for ophthalmic optician, in 1989 after completing a degree in optometry from Aston University in Birmingham. After some years working in both Independent and High Street Optical practice, she joined Mincher-Lockett as a partner in July 2006 and is a member of the British College of Optometrists.  Jan works in both Mincher-Lockett practices and also at our sister practice Malcolm Gray and Associates in Eccleshall. She is the clinical lead optometrist and conducts eye examinations and contact lens consultations at all three practices. She is happy to advise people on how they can look after their eyes for the future. She is qualified to deliver Minor Eye Conditions Service, Glaucoma Referral Refinement and Post-operative Cataract Assessment. She also has a special interest in visual stress and reading difficulties and has a diploma in School Vision from SVUK. As well as keeping abreast of new developments in eyecare, Jan enjoys keeping fit, cooking, walking, reading and travel.

Sarah Edge, Dispensing and Contact Lens Optician

Sarah started her career in optical practice in 1977. She qualified as a dispensing optician in 1981. She also has more than 30 years’ experience in fitting all types of contact lenses.  She has worked at Mincher-Lockett Opticians since 1985, becoming a partner with Jan in July 2006.  Sarah loves advising customers on the best frames and lenses for their individual needs and helping to ensure they get the best fitting spectacles for their face shape and a look that they love. She carries out contact lens fitting and aftercare at all three practices and keeps up to date with all advances in contact lenses through her membership of the Federation of Dispensing Opticians  (FODO) and the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA). She also has an interest in dry eye management. Sarah is a keen gardener and also enjoys playing tennis and walking her dog.

Paul Lee, Optician

Paul joined us in July 2011, having worked at a practice in North Staffs for some years. He began his optical career in Stafford, having qualified in 1997 after completing his Optometry degree at  Aston University in Birmingham. and so was delighted to join Mincher-Lockett Opticians and return to the town.  He is an optician with many years' experience, and divides his time between our Gnosall and Stafford practices and also Malcolm Gray and Associates in Eccleshall. Paul has a particular interest in nutrition for eye health.  He has qualifications for Minor Eye Conditions Service, Glaucoma referral refinement and Post-operative cataract assessment as well as being experienced in contact lens fitting and dry eye assessment. Paul has lived in the Stafford area since childhood and is a keen Stafford Rangers supporter.

Catherine Curtis- Optometrist

Catherine is new to our team in 2019. She works in Stafford and Eccleshall conducting eye examinations and contact lens aftercare. She now lives in Stafford with her husband having grown up in Cannock. She is enjoying meeting and getting to know our patients and looking after their optical needs. Catherine qualified as an Optometrist in 2007 having studied at Aston University.  In recent years she has been working in domiciliary eyecare. She keeps up-to-date with Optical matters by attending regular Local Optical Society meetings and other events as well as on-line training. Catherine is a keen runner and has completed 1 full marathon and approaching 20 half marathons. She also likes walking, working out in the gym and has recently taken up crochet! 

Anne Shrimpton, Dispensing Optician

AnneAnne joined Mincher-Lockett Opticians in February 2005 having gained a degree in Fine Arts Sculpture. She qualified as an optometric clinical assistant in 2007 and then continued her training to degree level and qualified as a dispensing optician in 2011. Anne’s artistic eye is very useful when advising people on frame choice. After a few more years of combining work with study Anne gained a qualification as a Contact Lens Optician from the Association of British Dipensing Opticians. As well as her academic study Anne has managed to reach and maintain the level of 3rd Dan Black Belt in Wado-Ryu Karate and 3rd degree Black Belt in Kick Boxing. She also still enjoys drawing and art.

Sue Simkin, Optometric Clinical Assistant

Sue joined the team in 1999 and qualified as an optometric clinical assistant in 2000.  Her 20 years’ experience mean she has a great understanding of everything to do with optical practice. She is instrumental in ensuring the practice runs smoothly. She is a familiar face to many of our long-standing patients and will always ensure that we deliver excellent customer service. In her spare time Sue enjoys regular trips around the U.K in her caravan, walking and reading.

Beverley Pickstock- Receptionist/Optical Clinical Assistant

Beverley joined us in 2014 and works 3 days per week. She has previously worked in the nursing profession. Bev enjoys meeting our patients and performing their pre-screening tests as well as dealing with queries and administration. She also enjoys helping customers to select frames and sunglasses. Bev gained a Certificate in Optical Clinical Assistance from The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.

Fiona Bryant – Receptionist

Fiona is our newest recruit. She started working at Mincher-Lockett in Stafford in January 2019 as a part-time receptionist job-sharing with Beverley. She is enjoying learning new skills and working as part of a caring team. In her spare time she enjoys walking, cooking, crafting and taking part in pub quizzes.

Vicky Strophair- Receptionist/ Optical Clinical Assistant

Vicky is our roving receptionist and works in our two Mincher-Lockett Opticians practices in Stafford and Gnosall as well as at Malcolm Gray in Eccleshall. She joined the business in 2015 and will always help out wherever she is needed. Vicky enjoys working with our clients, performing pre-screening tests to help the optometrists, helping to choose frames and assemble and fit spectacles as well as dealing with administration and answering queries. She has completed a qualification as an Optical Clinical Assistant with the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers. Vicky enjoys swimming, walking on Cannock Chase and spending time with her family.

Rosie Birhah, Optometrist

Rosie joined us in July 2018 and combines working in Gnosall 2 days per week with other Optometry work elsewhere. She graduated from Aston University in 1993 and attained her professional qualification in 1994 furthering her education by gaining a Masters degree in Clinical Optometry in 2002. She is qualified to deliver Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS), Glaucoma Referral Refinement and Cataract Post-operative Assessment in addition to performing eye examinations and contact lens aftercare. Rosie also has a special interest in Dry Eye conditions and nutrition for eye health. She loves seeing children and is also a Dementia Friend. In her spare time Rosie organises training events for other Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians with Dudley Local Optical Council. She is an active member of her local church, enjoying youth work and pastoral work as well as reading, walking and travel.

Emma Blasco, Optometric Clinical and Dispensing Assistant and Trainee Dispensing Optician

Emma joined our Gnosall practice in July 2013. She has combined work with study from the start and has gained level 2 certificates in Optical Screening and Optical Practice Support from the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers as well as a University Certificate in Ophthalmic Dispensing from the University of East Anglia. We are delighted that Emma is now studying for a degree in Dispensing Optics with Canterbury Christchurch University in association with ABDO (Association of British Dispensing Opticians) College. Emma lives in Gnosall and will be well-known to many people as her children attended the village school and she has been very involved in organising the annual Scouts bonfire for many years. When she can spare time from her studies she enjoys working on her allotment in the village and spending time with her family.

Tina Stinton, Receptionist and Clinical Assistant

Tina has been working in Gnosall since July 2015 as a part-time receptionist and clinical assistant. She has studied for a Optical Clinical Assistant diploma. Tina enjoys working as part of a caring team to deliver excellent eyecare and advice to all our patients and customers. Outside work Tina has many interests including gardening, cycling, home décor and crafts. Her artistic eye is evident in our eye-catching window displays. She also enjoys travel and sight-seeing in the U.K and further afield.

Shelly Cumberlidge, Receptionist

Shelly joined our Gnosall team in May 2018 as a part-time receptionist. She is enjoying getting to know our patients and adding to her knowledge of optical practice. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, gardening, walking her dogs and holidaying in the UK and abroad.
